Singer Sarah Bonnici has announced the release of her debut visual album, something i had to lose, which will be released on 29th June.Written by Sarah alongside producers Matthew James Borg and Edward Abela, the project explores the experiences and emotions that have shaped the past year of her life. Each song forms part of a wider narrative, connected through original musical interludes and spoken-word passages.Most of the instruments on the album were recorded live, while the lead vocals were left largely unedited to retain the character of the original performances.“something i had to lose is the most honest version of myself I’ve ever shared,” says Sarah. “For years, I found myself creating music that I believed would resonate with the widest audience. This album helped me reconnect with the music that feels most natural to me.”While audiences have come to know Sarah through her pop releases, the album sees her return to the soul and jazz influences she grew up with.Sarah represented Malta at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with Loop.
