THE RUNDOWNWidow’s Bay is returning to Apple TV for a second season. The show stars Matthew Rhys as a small-town mayor of a haunted town. The first season has not yet aired its finale. On Friday, June 12, it was announced that the hit Apple TV show Widow’s Bay has been renewed for a second season. The finale is set to air on June 17, but fans are very excited for more horror, comedy, and mystery, all in one series. Here’s what we know so far about Widow’s Bay season 2. Warning: spoilers ahead.Has Widow’s Bay been renewed?Yes! In a statement, Apple TV’s head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the show’s creator, Katie Dippold, director Hiro Murai, and star Matthew Rhys.“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Cherniss. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”What will season 2 of Widow’s Bay be about?Ahead of the finale, in the penultimate episode, Mayor Tom Loftis has discovered that the last living relative of Richard Warren is his elderly secretary, Ruth. Back in the 1700s, Warren made a deal with the evil animus of the island to bring food and mild winters, but it came with a price. The island is full of boogeymen, hags, and murderous clowns. On top of that, no one born on the island can leave it without deadly consequences.Warren believed that when his bloodline ended, so would the agreement and thus the hauntings. With the island’s population and a number of tourists locked in the storm cellar as the weather rages, Tom has to decide if Ruth’s life is more important than everyone else in town, including his teenage son, Evan—who was born there and can’t leave.Until the finale, it’s hard to know where the story is heading exactly, but it’s probably safe to say things won’t be set right in the town of Widow’s Bay overnight. There will likely be more explorations of the island’s history, the origin of its evil core, and the general wackiness of the town’s inhabitants.Who will be in season 2 of Widow’s Bay?Assuming everyone survives the finale, the second season will likely include Rhys returning as Mayor Loftis, Kate O’Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Jeff Hiller, Neil Casey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Stephen Root. When will season 2 of Widow’s Bay premiere? There’s no set date yet. This post will be updated.
