Donald Trump lashed out at Charlamagne tha God on Truth Social after Charlamagne’s Saturday, August 2, 2025, appearance on Fox News’ My View, hosted by Trump’s daughter-in-law and former Republican Party co-chair, Lara Trump. Trump didn’t specify exactly what “Charlamagne the God” — as Trump spelled it — said that made him so mad. But in his post, Trump called the media personality a “racist sleazabag” and accused him of being a “LOW IQ individual.” Trump also noted, “Why is he allowed to use the word ‘GOD’ when describing himself? Can anyone imagine the uproar there would be if I used that nickname?” Charlamagne’s given name is Lenard Larry McKelvey. Charlamagne tha God is his hip-hop alias. Trump: ‘This dope, Charlamagne’ Trump went on, typically overstating his achievements, “[Charlamagne] has no idea what words are coming out of his mouth, and knows nothing about me or what I have done – like just ending 5 Wars, including a 31 year bloodbath between Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, where Seven Million people have died, and there was no end in sight. He didn’t know that, or India and Pakistan or, wiping out Iran’s nuclear capabilities, or closing the horrendous open Border, or creating the greatest economy, where prices and Inflation have come way down, and where STUPID and CORRUPT JOE BIDEN set the record for doing the Worst Job as President, EVER.” Trump added, “But this dope, Charlamagne, would vote for Sleepy Joe or Kamala? Remember, one year ago our Country was DEAD, now it’s the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World. MAGA!!!” Charlamagne: There’s a “political coup” with Epstein at the center #BREAKINGNEWS Charlamagne says on Fox Epstein files are going to be a way for traditional Republicans to break from Trump. He has also said he believes Trump has dementia, is a threat to democracy, and attempted a coup. pic.twitter.com/oTE427a890— Ford News (@FordJohnathan5) August 3, 2025 In his Fox News appearance, Charlamagne criticized both Democrats and Republicans, stating he didn’t think Kamala Harris should run again in 2028. He also said he might support a Jon Stewart-Stephen Colbert ticket, calling Stewart “a change agent coming from the outside.” And Colbert will be out of a job when his CBS show ends next year. But it was what Charlamagne said about Jeffrey Epstein that likely made Trump lose his temper. “I think that traditional conservatives are going to take the Republican Party back,” over the Epstein controversy, Charlamagne told Lara Trump. He added, “I think there’s a political coup going on right now in the Republican Party that people aren’t paying attention to.” On Monday, Charlamagne responded to Trump’s Truth Social tirade on his show, The Breakfast Club. He didn’t address Trump’s “racist,” as far as being a sleazebag, Charlamagne said, “Depending on who you ask, that may apply to me.”  And in terms of having a low IQ, which is strangely one of Trump’s favorite insults, but he added, without noting that IQ tests have their racist connotations, “He said I’m ‘a low-IQ individual.’ I don’t know, I’ve never taken an IQ test.” More than anything, though, Charlamagne said Trump’s response was straight from the authoritarian playbook. “With his reaction to what I said on Lara Trump shows how authoritarians will attempt to bully people into pushing false narratives. “
