Since joining the club in 2015, he has made 447 appearances for Wednesday, scoring 34 goals and adding 72 assists. Why did Bannan sign a new contract?Explaining his decision to extend his stay into an 11th season, the Scottish midfielder said: “I’ve been there a long time of my footballing career, I’ve just started my 11th season.“It’s become a part of my family now. So it was quite an easy decision at the same time as it being a really, really hard one.“It was kind of getting to the place where it’s close to the kick-off now and I wanted to know where I was going to be going forward.“So obviously with the embargo and stuff, it makes it quite hard to get it signed, but I got here in the end.”Bannan’s contract renewal leaves former assistant manager Pedersen with 16 first-team players ahead of their clash with the Foxes. The Danish coach was elevated to his new role last week after Danny Rohl left the club.Sheffield Wednesday's current squadFirst-team players as of 5/8/25 (age in brackets)GoalkeepersPierce Charles (20)DefendersDi’Shon Bernard (24)Dominic Iorfa (30)Gabriel Otegbayo (20)Max Lowe (28)Yan Valery (26)Liam Palmer (33)MidfieldersNathaniel Chalobah (30)Svante Ingelsson (27)Barry Bannan (35)Sean Fusire (20)ForwardsOlaf Kobacki (24)Ike Ugbo (26)Jamal Lowe (31)Bailey Cadamarteri (20)Charlie McNeill (21)Meanwhile, the North Stand at Hillsborough has also been closed by Sheffield City Council due to concerns regarding its structural integrity.Wednesday’s first home match of the season is against Stoke on August 16.
