(Credit: Pawan Singh X)From his expulsion from the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls for “indiscipline and anti-party activities” to a reconciliation with the party leadership, Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh’s political arc has come full circle in barely a year.Seen as both a thorn on the side and a shot in the arm for the NDA before the Bihar Assembly elections, Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda in Delhi on Tuesday. Also present were BJP Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde and Rashtriya Lok Manch (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha — against whom Singh had contested the Karakat Lok Sabha seat as an Independent after rejecting a BJP ticket from Asansol.“Pawanji is in the BJP and will remain in the BJP. Kushwahaji has given his blessings… Pawanji will actively work for the NDA as a BJP karyakarta in the upcoming elections,” Tawde told reporters after the meeting of the once-bitter rivals.Sharing the pictures of his meetings on X, Singh spoke about a “developed Bihar”. “Seeing these photos today must be making snakes churn on the hearts of those who nurture casteist politics. But those whose hearts are home to the dream of a developed Bihar, how long can they stay away from each other?… In building the Bihar of (Prime Minister) Narendra Modiji and (Chief Minister) Nitishji’s dreams, your son Pawan will put in full power,” he said in a post. आज हमारे माननीय गृह मंत्री @AmitShah जी और हमारे राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष @JPNadda जी माननीय @UpendraKushRLM जी से मुलाक़ात हुई… pic.twitter.com/DyoqUe8VKw— Pawan Singh (@PawanSingh909) September 30, 2025With Singh’s return almost formalised, party insiders said attention now shifts to his role within the organisation and the impact he could make in Bihar. “Cashing in on Singh’s popularity is clearly the NDA’s plan to strengthen its position in Bihar. Whether he will be fielded remains uncertain, but his presence helps balance the ambitions of the Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas),” a source said.Singh was among the BJP’s celebrity candidates in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and was set to take on Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Asansol before withdrawing for “personal reasons” after he faced backlash over his public image, particularly criticism of alleged misogyny in his songs and films.“Pawan Singh is said to have sought a shift to a seat near Arrah, where he has a strong base, but the request came too late. He may now try his luck in the Vidhan Sabha polls from the region,” an insider said.In his electoral debut, Singh polled over 2.74 lakh votes in Karakat, more than Kushwaha’s 2.53 lakh, though the seat was won by the CPI (M-L) L’s Raja Ram Singh.Jatin Anand is an Assistant Editor with the national political bureau of The Indian Express.
