Rarely does a statue of a sportsperson look exactly like them – and Jannik Sinner’s appears to be no different. One of the most iconic statues-gone-wrong was football icon Cristiano Ronaldo‘s in 2017 and there have been many more before and after.Sinner was at the unveiling of his terracotta statue in ShanghaiX @SH_RolexMastersBut Sinner is now the latest to have fans questioning the likeness of his sculpture, which was revealed on Thursday in Shanghai. The Italian is in China for the Shanghai Masters – a tournament that he won last year by beating Novak Djokovic. And it was because he won the event in 2024 that he received the commemorative statue on his return. Organisers have created a terracotta statue of Sinner as a tribute to his success and their cultural tradition. The World No.2’s model includes him holding a tennis racket and sporting a cap, which he always wears on court. However, rather than being in tennis attire, his clothing has been based off China’s historic Terracotta army.Sinner stood next to the statue as it was revealed ahead of his first game at the tournament, which is already underway. He smiled and looked pleased with his likeness in the video, saying: “Woah” as the cloth was taken away from the statue. However, tennis fans haven’t had such a joyful reaction to it…One bluntly wrote on X: “I think it looks nothing like him.”View Tweet: https://twitter.com/janniksin?ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwSinner helped to reveal the statue at the unveiling ahead of his first match at the Shanghai MastersX @SH_RolexMastersHe seemed rather pleased with how the terracotta-inspired model lookedX @SH_RolexMasters“That’s the worst statue I’ve ever seen,” another said on social media.A third replied to the video of the reveal: “Is this AI or does it just not even slightly look like him?”Meanwhile, a more optimistic fan wrote: “This is clean, I don’t care if it looks like him.”What has Sinner said about the statue?
