9 hotel guests found with expired visas, manager booked

(Credit: Pixabay)Powai police booked the manager of a hotel after he failed to report foreign tenants who had been staying at the establishment since the last two weeks. Police said during a surprise check at the hotel, they found 15 women, nine of whom were from Kenya and Uganda whose visas had expired and were residing in the city illegally.All 15 had travelled to India a few months ago on tourist visas. The police started the process of deporting the foreign nationals.According to police, an official of the Anti Terrorist Cell (ATC) from Powai police station received intel about foreign nationals staying in the hotel since several days. A police team conducted a surprise check in Dream Inn Prime hotel located in Marol, Andheri (east) on Wednesday.They found 15 women who were from Uganda, Kenya, and Vietnam staying in rooms. Nine out of them were found to have expired visas and were staying in the city illegally.Police said the women kept changing their hotel every month or 15 days. They allegedly came here to work as commercial sex workers, said a police officer.“The manager was interrogated and his job was to inform the police if any foreign nationals were staying in the hotel. The hotel has violated the norms which were passed by the Mumbai police asking people to register the tenants details with the local police.
