(Express photo)A three-day-old infant was rescued from a forest in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district after being abandoned by his parents, both government school teachers who allegedly feared losing their jobs for having a fourth child. The infant boy was born at home on September 23 at approximately 3:00 am. Shortly after delivery, his parents took him to a nearby forest area near Road Ghat, placed him under a heavy stone, and left him there. The following morning, villagers passing through the area heard the infant’s cries. They removed the stone and found the baby alive. The child was immediately transported to medical care and later referred to the district hospital, where he remains under treatment.Police arrested Bablu and Rajkumari Dandoliya, both Class 3 teachers at a government primary school. The couple has three other children aged 8, 6, and 4.During interrogation, the father allegedly confessed to abandoning the baby due to fears about employment consequences. “During questioning, the father admitted to burying the baby under a rock out of fear that having a fourth child might lead to suspension or dismissal from his teaching post,” a senior police officer said. The case has brought attention to Sub-Rule (6) of Rule 6 of Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (General Conditions of Service) Rules, 1961, which states: “No candidate shall be eligible for appointment to a service or post who has more than two living children one of whom is born on or after the 26th day of January, 2001”.However, a senior government official noted a crucial ambiguity: “There is a dichotomy, if you have more than two children you won’t be eligible to sit in the exam. It doesn’t say if you have children after joining the service, whether you will be disqualified from your job”.Local officials, including Block Resource Coordinator (BRC) Amarwara Vinod Verma, visited the scene. Verma condemned the incident as “shameful for society”, stating that “a notice will be issued to the teacher and further district-level action will follow”.Story continues below this adPolice have filed a case under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for child abandonment. A police officer added: “We are consulting senior officers. Further sections, including 109 BNS (attempt to murder), may be added after legal review”.The infant remains in hospital care. Authorities have not yet announced what will happen to the child once he is medically cleared for discharge.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Madhya Pradesh
