On Monday, Walt Disney World Resort guests reportedly experienced panic and “commotion” while waiting in line for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Magic Kingdom Park. One Disney Park visitor shared their story on social media after security escorted everyone out of line for the Adventureland attraction.Pirates of the Caribbean debuted at Disneyland Park in 1967. Just a few years later, in 1973, Walt Disney World Resort premiered its version of the Adventureland attraction at Magic Kingdom Park. Versions later followed at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris Resort. Over the years, the Disney Park ride became so iconic that it inspired the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. Later, Walt Disney Imagineers incorporated Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) animatronics into several versions of the attraction.Credit: Inside the MagicImagineers have altered the ride in other ways, too. In the late 2010s, Disney replaced the original bride auction scene on Pirates of the Caribbean, turning objectified brides-for-sale into independent female pirates.Like any change to a classic Disney Park attraction, this update was met with controversy. Many Disney Parks fans felt sanitizing the grim reality of piracy was wrong. Others argued that it was better to make the family-friendly vacation destination more inclusive and culturally sensitive. Some Disney Parks fans, on the other hand, felt Imagineers should’ve removed even more classic elements from Pirates of the Caribbean. In 2023, a TikTok creator went viral after sharing her discomfort riding Pirates of the Caribbean as a female guest. “I just think this is kind of a weird ride,” she said. “I don’t know… It’s just a little bit rapey.”Other women agreed.Credit: Ed Aguila, Inside the Magic“It feels like we’re the entertainment for them and I do not like it,” one commenter said.“I always felt violated on this ride,” another replied.Despite the criticism, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort continue to operate Pirates of the Caribbean as usual. However, on Monday, an unknown emergency halted all rides on the Magic Kingdom Park attraction.Credit: DisneyOn September 29, u/ferretbeast posted about their experience evacuating the Adventureland building on Reddit. “We just got quickly escorted out of line and lots of commotion,” the Disney Park guest explained. “…We couldn’t get much info but it was chaotic. They opened every possible exit and scooted us out in record time.”Disney cast members wouldn’t disclose why the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction had to be evacuated.Credit: Ed Aguila, Inside the Magic“It was just a weird evacuation experience and I’ve been through several,” the Reddit user continued. “…I worked at Disney for the college program and have been more times than I can count… last time I saw this chaotic/quick of an evac a jungle cruise boat sank. Could have just been the type of guests in line today though. Who knows.”Walt Disney World Resort rarely issues public statements about temporary attraction closures, and this situation was no different. However, Pirates of the Caribbean reopened at Magic Kingdom Park shortly after the commotion on Monday.Which Disney park has the best version of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride?
