You Can’t Criticize Me for Being MP For15 Years When for you Have Been a Big Radio Caller for more than 20 years and U Aren’t About to Stop, Medard Segona Unleashes on Activist Makolo Kavuma

By Mulengera ReportersAppearing on Kabaka’s CBS radio on Wednesday evening, Busiro East MP Medard Segona had a belligerent exchange with several radio callers who rang into the studios to endorse and praise the decision by the NUP party top leadership to deny him their 2026 ticket and instead giving it to singer Mathias Walukagga who many social media users have rejected as a low-grade politician who can’t match his pedigree. Calling into the studios, Makolo Kavuma implored Segona to accept the NUP party decision and gracefully call it a day because he has occupied the office of Busiro East MP for too long. “You have been MP for 15 years as the Busiro incumbent and that is such a long time. You are the people depriving us of chance to make a good case against President Museveni and we can’t continue being led by commanders like you who can’t criticise the dictator for overstaying in power because you have equally overstayed. It’s important that you exhibit political maturity by rallying behind Walukagga so that he also gets the chance to be a good MP and shine like you have been doing in the last 15 years,” Makolo Kavuma said. In anger, Segona responded by wondering why Makolo Kavuma, who he implied might even be older than him, doesn’t stop his business of making daily phone calls into almost all Kampala’s leading Luganda radio talk shows.“The truth is you have been calling into radio talk shows to serve some personal interest for more than 20 years and yet you aren’t about to stop. But you have the guts to say that for me who has been MP for 15 years, I have overstayed and should leave for the younger ones. [How come you haven’t left that radio calling platform for the younger ones too?],” Segona exploded into the microphone while making it clear that Makolo Kavuma needs to undergo through political sensitization since he clearly seems to be lacking the adequate levels of civic awareness. Some callers like Luba Kyoya backed Segona saying its unfortunate that, for all the good he has done including defending the nascent NUP party in courts of law, Kavule has paid him that way. He welcomed Segona’s decision to stand and seek re-election as an independent since that is the only way for the real people power in Busiro East to manifest. Some callers advised that time had come for NUP to accept more transparent and inclusive methods of selecting its flag bearers as opposed to relying on mere Electoral Management Committee whose criterion isn’t even clear. Some demanded that NUP releases the final score card and tally so that Ugandans transparently can see the percentages the likes of Medard Segona got at vetting level on one hand and on ground appeal on the other.
