Three of late-night television’s biggest hosts have joined together in a show of support against President Donald Trump. Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Seth Meyers appeared together on stage during a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in Brooklyn, New York, posting a photo with a simple but clear message aimed at the president. According to USA Today, the meeting happened during a difficult time for late-night television. ABC had just brought back Jimmy Kimmel Live! after stopping the show for six days because of pressure from the Trump administration. The show was suspended after Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr threatened the network over Kimmel’s comments about the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. The three hosts posted the photo on Instagram with the words “Hi Donald!” Colbert was already set to appear as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! during the Brooklyn taping, but Meyers showed up as a surprise. The picture showed the three comedians standing together on stage, with the crowd behind them. How late-night hosts stood together against pressure from the government The trouble started after Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA was talking to a crowd when he was hit by a single shot from a nearby rooftop. Tyler James Robinson, 22, was later arrested and charged with murder. Prosecutors said they would seek the death penalty, claiming the attack was done for political reasons. FCC Chairman Carr then pressured ABC to do something. On September 18, ABC said it had pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air with no set return date. Trump celebrated the suspension on Truth Social, writing that Kimmel had “ZERO talent.” He also called for NBC to cancel the shows hosted by Meyers and Jimmy Fallon, calling them “two total losers.” https://www.threads.com/@jimmykimmel/post/DPPjggRDG0-?xmt=AQF0bwtQk9P4jjGdYPyc7Qd7BJzXwW6plTvX6GmcukixuA After ABC brought Kimmel back on September 22, his fellow hosts stood behind him. Colbert said on The Late Show that “with an autocrat, you cannot give an inch” and called the suspension “blatant censorship.” Meyers talked about the situation on Late Night, saying that Trump’s administration was “pursuing a crackdown on free speech.” Jon Stewart also made a special appearance on The Daily Show to support Kimmel. Colbert had faced his own problems earlier in the year when CBS announced that The Late Show would end in May 2026, just days after he criticized the network’s parent company for settling a lawsuit with Trump. The united response from the late-night group showed growing worries about free speech and government pressure on media companies.
