He has invited the floor leaders of the Rajya Sabha for a meeting at his official residence — Vice President Enclave, Church Road — on October 7. While some leaders had met him briefly after his election, this would be the first time all the floor leaders would get an opportunity to interact with him.Double DownWhen the 24 parliamentary panels were reconstituted on Wednesday, the Opposition’s complaint last year that it had been treated “unfairly” remained unaddressed. In the new formation, 29 MPs have been given double membership in key committees, including two from the Opposition — Rajiv Shukla of the Congress is a member of committees on external affairs and energy and TMC’s Sudhip Bandyopadhyay has been included in standing committee on consumer affairs, food and public distribution and the panel on rural development and panchayati raj. NDA ally Janasena Party’s Balashowry Vallabhaneni is included in the finance committee and the panel on petroleum and natural gas while TDP’s Kesineni Sivanath is in the committees on home affairs and defence. All other 25 MPs are from the BJP.Gujarat Set, GoWith the BJP having set the ball rolling on organisational elections in Gujarat, party circles are abuzz with speculation of the process commencing in another crucial state — Uttar Pradesh — where local polls are due in 2026 and Assembly elections in 2027. The BJP on Thursday announced that nominations for the Gujarat BJP president post would be accepted and scrutinised on October 3 and the voting and result declaration will be done on Saturday. Some insiders also sought to interpret the Gujarat announcement as a precursor to the election of the BJP national president, which has been pending for months.© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Delhi Confidential
