With all the traffic accidents that have taken place over the past couple weeks, we took a look at the number of contraventions posted by LESA for the month of July.In a post on Facebook, LESA made the number of contraventions for overspeeding, the use of a mobile whilst driving, driving without a road license, driving without seatbelts and violations of no entry signs public for all to see.In just one month, 2,963 contraventions were issued for overspeeding.778 for the use of a phone whilst driving, 349 for not wearing a seatbelt and 322 for violating no entry signs. The most shocking of them all, 554 contraventions for driving without a road license. In total, 4,966 contraventions were issued in the month of July alone, equating to about 160 contraventions per day. These figures cast a troubling light on the recent string of traffic accidents, suggesting that dangerous driving behaviours, from speeding and distracted driving to operating vehicles without proper licenses, remain a serious concern on Maltese roads. While not every accident is directly linked to these offences, the high number of contraventions underscores a broader culture of risk-taking behind the wheel. What do you make of these statistics?•
