A Maltese man, Simon Azzopardi, expressed his frustration on social media at drunk students who urinated all over his fishing gear as he was enjoying a quiet night with his wife and children.“Within minutes, several of them wandered over, maybe a metre from us, and started urinating against the wall, right over our fishing gear. Literally on it. I had our baby in my arms when I tried to stop them. They got confrontational, as if they were entitled to do it,” wrote Azzopardi on Facebook. The husband and father wrote a statement describing what he saw prior to the incident saying that as he and his family were seated on the jetty at a beach, a Turkish ship pulled up and over 100 alleged drunken students were disembarking. The family even moved out of the way so as to try and avoid any issues, however, within minutes the students wandered and went next to the family.“We left everything. It was soaked in urine. On the way home, the kids asked why people behave like that, is this normal?” wrote Azzopardi. He went on to say how if it were in other countries, like Australia, Spain and France, incidents like these would be met with fines and/or detainment from the police.“But here? We allow it. In fact, we create the space for it. We let organisers bring in boatloads of people whose only plan is to get drunk and take over public spaces meant for everyone. No police presence, no accountability, no deterrent.”Azzopardi finished his statement by calling for rules to be enforced better, for organisers to held accountable and police visibly present in crowded areas. What do you make of Azzopardi’s statement?•
