(File)Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla admitted a notice for the removal of Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma and announced a three-member panel to probe allegations Tuesday over the alleged discovery of unaccounted cash at his official residence in New Delhi during a fire in March this year.The house accepted the motion signed by 146 MPs for the impeachment of Justice Verma.Announcing in Lok Sabha, Birla said the process of removal of Justice Varma should begin as the charges against him were serious in nature.The three-member committee comprises — Supreme Court judge Justice Aravind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and senior advocate of Karnataka High Court B V Acharya.“The committee will submit its report as early as possible. The proposal (for removal of Justice Varma) will remain pending till the receipt of the report of the inquiry committee,” Birla said.On August 8, the Supreme Court dismissed Justice Varma’s petition challenging the in-house inquiry against him over.Justice Varma, who was a judge of the Delhi HC, is facing an impeachment motion following a probe into allegations of cash being found at his official residence.
