I can’t wait.”As a player, Lineker spent three years in Spain with Barcelona between 1986 and 1989.During that time he scored 42 goals in 103 La Liga appearances for the club.Lineker’s podcast firm have signed a three-year deal with La LigaGettyGettyIt is the first time video rights from a top European league have been given to a podcast[/caption]The former England striker also won the Cup Winners’ Cup and Copa del Rey with Barca.His new podcast comes after signing a deal with ITV to host a new Saturday night game show.Titled ‘The Box’, the show sees celebrities complete a series of challenges whilst in boxes.Lineker joined the broadcaster having left the BBC at the end of last season following 26 years as Match of the Day host.Why did Lineker leave Match of the Day?The BBC confirmed in May that Lineker would depart after the final Match of the Day of the season.He had previously been set to remain with the company despite leaving the weekly highlights show when the campaign ended. The move would have seen Lineker front FA Cup coverage during the 2025/26 season before saying his farewells after next summer’s World Cup.However, his immediate exit was instead confirmed a year early after Lineker was sacked by the BBC.It followed accusations of anti-Semitism in relation to a post Lineker had shared on social media.The pro-Gaza video, which he deleted and apologised for, likened supporters of Israel to rats.
