Map created by Track.rsThe map above shows English Channel swim tracks so far in 2025 up until 13 August. It was originally posted to reddit by user sudu_kalnasWho explains the following:Q: Where do they keep their passport while swimming? Where’s the border patrol checkpoint? And if immigration refuses them to enter, can they just swim back?A: Channel swims like this are a huge operation. Every swimmer has their own escort boat, and just getting a slot to attempt it means registering almost a year ahead. Then you cross your fingers for good weather, and… oh yeah – come up with way more money than a ferry ticket would cost. And that’s not even counting the months (or years) of training to be physically ready for the challenge.Q: I didn’t realize how popular of a feat this was. And now seeing all the tracks I am slightly less impressed when hearing about someone completing it.A: It’s not just the insane physical effort, they’re doing it without wetsuits! I tap out if the water’s below 21°C, and these legends are out there for hours in 15–18°C. How do you even keep hypothermia at bay that long?!Q: If they burn like 750kcal/h (which I believe to be reasonable) they generate about 10 times as much heat as a human at restAlso insane body controlA: Our coach always says one of two things: “If you’re cold, you just don’t know how to shiver” or “If you’re cold, swim faster or eat more.” According to my Apple Watch, I burn over 1000 kcal/hour during long-distance swims (like 10k races) — yeah, I know the number’s probably way off. But even with a wetsuit in 20°C water, I can feel my core temp drop a lot right after finish. The body temperature drops significantly control of these athletes is insane!Q: Some of them turn away and the line disappear “early” I am assuming they gave up or had an issue (or just didn’t plan on doing the full swim). But some lines turn back like at the end in France… did they try to do the back and forth?A: The “turning back” you see is usually just because the tracker keeps running a bit after the swimmer finishes or gets pulled from the water, and then logs the trip back.Unfortunately, sometimes the ocean has other plans. Jellyfish stings or hypothermia can knock even the toughest swimmers out. Happened to a buddy of mine – he blacked out just a few kilometers from the French shore. Once you’re pulled from the water, the rules say your swim is officially over. Here is the full list of 2025 swims at the time of publication from the Channel Swimming Association Ltd:NameTypeCountryRouteTimeThe Channel CrusadersRelay (2)Great BritainEngland to France12:01Trevor van AurichSoloAustraliaEngland to France14:23Channel ChoppersRelay (6)Great BritainEngland to France13:43Mabel NaisbittSoloGreat BritainEngland to France13:28Jessica KierasSoloUnited StatesEngland to France11:26Kenny PrimroseSoloGreat BritainEngland to France14:25Michelle GoodwinSoloUnited StatesEngland to France15:24The Channel ChapsRelay (3)InternationalEngland to France13:02Olivier HarmantSoloFranceEngland to France12:41David RocheSoloGreat BritainEngland to France11:10Andrew PackerSoloUnited StatesEngland to France10:41Brockwell-Blue FinsRelay (5)Great BritainEngland to France16:30Channel ChangelingsRelay (5)Great BritainEngland to France13:19Abraham Jauli AguirreSoloMexicoEngland to France17:13Joanna RiglerSoloGreat BritainEngland to France12:03Katie PumphreySoloUnited StatesEngland to France14:13Harrison HainesSoloUnited StatesEngland to France10:41Indo Bangla English Channel Relay SwimmingRelay (6)InternationalEngland to France12:10Afrin JabeeSoloIndiaEngland to France13:13The Sea SuiteRelay (4)InternationalEngland to France11:33Swim de AkyRelay (4)Great BritainEngland to France15:59Jenny McMahonSoloAustraliaEngland to France12:00Hannah GillespieSoloIrelandEngland to France15:22Seth BaetzoldSoloUnited StatesEngland to France11:23Brockwell- Jelly fish & JetsamRelay (5)InternationalEngland to France12:22Team B.A.D.Relay (3)Great BritainEngland to France15:11Georgia MouldSoloGreat BritainEngland to France11:51Rebecca Birchall (Lewis)SoloGreat BritainEngland to France09:24Louis VanderdoncktSoloBelgiumEngland to France10:57Jodie MillarSoloAustraliaEngland to France11:25Jason HooperSoloAustraliaEngland to France10:59Andrew MaverSoloAustraliaEngland to France11:29Uriel García del RíoSoloMexicoEngland to France12:37Greg WoodwardSoloAustraliaEngland to France11:21Cambridge University Swimming and Waterpolo ClubRelay (6)Great BritainEngland to France09:29Neil BatesSoloGreat BritainEngland to France12:23Zen DurbidgeSoloAustraliaEngland to France11:32Ey Up FranceRelay (4)Great BritainEngland to France10:091RRF Swim TeamRelay (7)Great BritainEngland to France15:27Blesma 2025Relay (4)Great BritainEngland to France14:40The Wave ChasersRelay (7)Great BritainEngland to France15:49She Swims Like a GirlRelay (6)Great BritainEngland to France10:59The Chubmarines - The Alexa TrustRelay (2)Great BritainEngland to France13:07Luis Bárcena PérezSoloSpainEngland to France12:02Graham BlairSoloGreat BritainEngland to France10:43India BarnardSoloGreat BritainEngland to France13:27PalianytsiaRelay (2)InternationalEngland to France13:35Lee VallettSoloGreat BritainEngland to France12:24Cali4nia CurrentsRelay (4)United StatesEngland to France12:28Tomos GriffithsSoloWalesEngland to France15:10Qswim Team MikeRelay (5)Great BritainEngland to France16:28Thiago NavesSoloBrazilEngland to France11:20Julia MaguireSoloGreat BritainEngland to France12:45Scott ParkinsonSoloAustraliaEngland to France14:56Red Top Stamina StormsRelay (4)Great BritainEngland to France12:06Jakub KačerovskýSoloCzech RepublicEngland to France09:10CZECH RANDOMSRelay (6)Czech RepublicEngland to France11:13Hope at Home relay teamRelay (6)Great BritainEngland to France16:14Swimlife DolphinsRelay (3)IndiaEngland to France16:05Lindsey WalkeSoloGreat BritainEngland to France14:20Pride of India BRelay (6)IndiaEngland to France11:19East BohemiansRelay (6)Czech RepublicEngland to France13:30Seafaring SalamandersRelay (5)United StatesEngland to France13:30Barnaby RyderSoloGreat BritainEngland to France09:42Alex WhiteSoloGreat BritainEngland to France13:10The Channel FiveRelay (5)Great BritainEngland to France13:48KLEOPATRA STOGIANNIDOUSoloGreeceEngland to France12:55Czech Winter SwimmersRelay (6)Czech RepublicEngland to France13:50Hackney Anaconda Channel CrossingRelay (4)Great BritainEngland to France10:00CLSGRelay (6)Great BritainEngland to France11:32Simon OakleySoloGreat BritainEngland to France11:58Pride of India ARelay (6)IndiaEngland to France13:37Moroccan Swimmers with BarakaRelay (5)InternationalEngland to France14:40Bluetits 2Relay (6)Great BritainEngland to France19:07Amy WamsleySoloUnited StatesEngland to France16:56TUNA TUNCASoloTurkeyEngland to France13:26Soggy SwimmersRelay (5)Great BritainEngland to France11:55S'Wim Team!Relay (5)InternationalEngland to France12:47Czech SardinellosRelay (6)Czech RepublicEngland to France12:21For more see: GPS Map Of Sophie Etheridge’s Incredible World Record Longest Swim of The English Channel In 29 Hours 4 Minutes Using Nothing But Her Arms
