Oh dear–this is not what is meant to happen…Credit: Ed Aguila, Inside the MagicDisney’s Hollywood Studios is one of the Disney World parks that is undergoing large amounts of change. At the park, Disney is bringing the Monsters of Monstropolis to an all-new area, while also debuting a new experience called The Magic of Disney Animation. While Disney continues to chisel away at its future, guests are still enjoying locations like Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. For some guests who attended Hollywood Studios park recently, their trip in the galaxy far, far away ended on a flat note after an attraction malfunction took place.Credit: DisneyGalaxy’s Edge, or the Black Spire Outpost of Batuu as it is known in-universe, is made up of many Star Wars-themed experiences, and is anchored by two popular attractions: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run.Guests may get to sit where the likes of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Rey Skywalker have sat, but–like in the Star Wars movies–flying the ship does not always go to plan.Credit: LucasfilmWhat is Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run?Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios puts guests right in the cockpit of the galaxy’s most famous starship for an interactive Star Wars mission. Set within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the attraction begins with an up-close encounter with a full-size Millennium Falcon before guests weave through a mechanic’s workshop and receive their mission briefing from the impressively lifelike animatronic Hondo Ohnaka. Once aboard, riders are assigned one of three roles—pilot, gunner, or engineer—and work together to smuggle cargo, fend off enemies, and keep the ship in one piece. The ride’s outcome changes depending on the crew’s performance, meaning every flight can feel different.Credit: DisneySmugglers Run offers multiple ways to ride, including standby, Lightning Lane, and a single-rider line. The highly detailed queue, the freedom to roam inside the Falcon before boarding, and the thrill of real-time, video game-like responsiveness make it one of the most immersive experiences in the park. However, recently, guests were left anywhere but the likes of Coruscant and Endor, after becoming stranded in an empty field due to a malfunction onboard.Credit: DisneyDisney World Guests Left in “Empty Field”With over 1,600 upvotes and hundreds of comments, a post on the Walt Disney World Resort Reddit is one of the most popular in the last 24 hours. You see it most often at boot up. Chances are it crashed and restarted but it can happen other ways too.Consider it like Smugglers’ version of when the lights come on at Soace Mountain! A rare sight indeed….for guests anyway:)Source: worked in human subjects simulator research for 20+ yearsComment byu/CaptainGibb from discussion inWaltDisneyWorldIt is interesting that, even though it is not one of the official Smuggler’s Run Star Wars locations, the broken ride still presented something themed—even if it was an empty field.Looking ahead, Disney Experiences will soon update the Galaxy’s Edge ride. Next year, to coincide with the release of Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) movie, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, will feature an all-new Mando-Verse overlay.Credit: LucasfilmStarting May 22, 2026, a new mission featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu will bring fresh destinations like Coruscant and Endor into the mix, ensuring even seasoned spacefarers have new adventures to look forward to.“In this new thrilling storyline, Hondo Ohnaka has gotten wind of a deal going down on Tatooine between ex-Imperial officers and a band of pirates,” Disney Parks Blog wrote. “There’s a generous bounty for their capture, so you’ll borrow the iconic ship and team up with Mando and Grogu to track them down and explore the galaxy.”Have you ever experienced a malfunction like this while riding Smuggler’s Run at Disney World or Disneyland Resort?
