Ever since the NFL did away with the fourth preseason game a few years ago, preseason game No.2 is where starters see the bulk of the action before it begins for real in Week 1 of the regular season. For Mahomes and company, it will be all about finding a rhythm on offense, especially the offensive line that had a variety of question marks throughout last year. Are the answers at left tackle solved? Are either Jaylon Moore and/or Josh Simmons up to the task of protecting the best player in the league? For the Seahawks, it’s simple. All eyes will be on new franchise quarterback Sam Darnold. Seattle signed Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract this offseason, letting incumbent starter Geno Smith walk. Then, they signed Cooper Kupp in hopes of the great receiver finding a bit of his old magic. With Darnold at the helm, Cooper on the outside next to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the offense should be just fine. The defense should also take a big step in year two of head coach Mike Macdonald’s system. Time will tell, but Friday night against the Chiefs gives them a great opportunity. Both teams will be looking to get their starters ready for that first week of September when the real thing starts. You can’t have that. You can’t go backwards on the offensive side. You can’t allow them to move forward on the defensive side. So we’ve got to clean that up.”Reid specifically cited the attention to detail it will take to play mistake-free football.“You have to focus in on the game plan, know where you’re at, and then understand the snap counts and you have to up your attention span there so that you get those covered.”On the Seattle side of things, the biggest question right now is the status of starting running back Kenneth Walker III.The talented tailback missed practice for the second straight day on Monday, but Macdonald said it’s nothing to worry about.“We have a plan for Ken, and we’re sticking to the plan,” Walker said, via Brady Henderson of ESPN.com.
