The Kochi City police have launched an investigation into an incident in which a 14-year-old boy alleged that his grandmother’s friend had forced him to drink alcohol and smoke ganja.The Ernakulam North police registered the case on the direction of District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya.The boy, a Standard 9 student of a city school, lives with his mother and grandmother in a rented house after his parents were separated.Allegedly, a 48-year-old man from Thiruvananthapuram frequently visited the house. According to the victim, the alleged incident happened on December 24 last year during the man’s visit when the boy’s mother was not at home.The man allegedly had drinks in front of the teenager and also forced him to drink. The boy was then reportedy taken to Vaduthala on a two-wheeler to procure suspected ganja. Once back home, the man smoked ganja and forced the boy to use it as well, the police said.The boy reportedly revealed the incident to his classmate, who in turn told his mother. She informed the victim’s mother, who immediately moved out of the house with her son.Reportedly, though the woman approached the Ernakulam women’s police with a complaint, there was a delay on their part. Subsequently, she filed a complaint with the District Police Chief.The boy has been given counselling with more sessions likely.
