After the girl and her family ran away to Colombia, the police came to question his mother at their house. He also revealed that the girl returned two years later, asking him to take her back. Moreover, she still asks for favours from Apoorva, but he never responds to her.Recalling how he met the girl, the director explained, “I was really poor and broke, and she had a big house in Defence Colony. She used to feed me and all, I really got infatuated. She was really nice to me. I met her at a club, they had an airline night on Thursday, you can get in for free. I was working for KLM Cargo, loading cargo at the airplane at night.”They even exchanged rings, but shortly afterwards, the girl’s family disappeared from their Delhi residence. “I thought we were really good together, we had exchanged rings. My ring was a little tight, so they said they will fix it so they took the ring back. They did this house sale and gave my mother’s forwarding address and next day, when I went to the house, the family was only not there. They had left for Colombia overnight, with my ring and the ring I have her. Sab leke chale gaye,” he said.ALSO READ | Skin on Aamir Khan’s foot came off while running in Lagaan, recalls Apoorva Lakhia: ‘I hit him with a ball 25 times’Apoorva continued, “You have to see their house in Defence Colony, it was a huge three-storey house. They opened a factory in Noida. Now, the case went to Interpol and the FBI reached my mother’s house. They said that this forwarding address was given because they are saying they’re your relatives, so we need to know where they are.”The shocking incident left him and his mother quite upset as they couldn’t get in touch with the girl at all. “My mother started calling me and said, ‘What have you gotten me into?’ I got a little pissed off. When you see in movies where suddenly a person disappears and you cannot get in touch with them, that’s a mindf**k. Her father didn’t grab her by her hair and ask her to leave, she was in cahoots – you need a passport, visa, ticket, and vaccinations. I couldn’t get in touch and it kept playing in my mind,” he shared. However, she came back, wanting Apoorva to forget everything and start afresh, but he stopped responding to her messages. “Two years later, there’s a knock on my door and she was outside saying, ‘I really love you and want you back’. I know where she is now, keeps asking me for favours but I don’t respond – things like her daughter wants to join the film industry. It was pretty bad!”Story continues below this adApoorva Lakhia is known for helming films, such as Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istaanbul, Zanjeer, and Haseena Parkar.
