Everton begin life at new stadium & Harvey Elliott “perfect” for West Ham

Wait 5 sec.

Five Premier League teams are hoping to be mid-table rather than relegation candidates in 2025/26, including an Everton side starting life in their new home.Much focus is on the title battle and relegation fight ahead of the new season, but what about those in the middle of the table? Here’s how fans of Brentford, Everton, Fulham, West Ham and Wolves are assessing the campaign. BrentfordLast season: 10thTIA predicted finish: 17thBest XI: Kelleher, Kayode, Van den Berg, Collins, Hickey, Henderson, Damsgaard, Yarmolyuk, Lewis-Potter, Thiago, Schade. The view from BrentfordBilly Grant (@billythebee99)Where will Brentford finish? There’s a lot of change at Brentford – new manager; new backroom staff, top goalscorer left; second-highest goalscorer probably leaving after going out on strike; captain left.So 14th would be a right result, in my opinion.Where will Liverpool finish? Champions.Who will win the league, if not Liverpool? Arsenal. Finally. One player you wish Brentford would sign, realistically:I’ll chuckle and say Alexander Isak, but I’m thinking Liverpool fans are saying the same. How’s your optimism for the season ahead? I’m actually very optimistic, considering our tumultuous close season.I think set-piece coach Keith Andrews is actually a safe option for us, rather than a risky choice. We know him inside out, and more to the point, he knows Brentford.I see this as an opportunity for us to draw the line and do things even better now. Better backroom staff, better players, learn from our mistakes with a fresh team of people.Jordan Henderson will bring experience and marshal the youngsters, while having full-backs Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey back after two seasons out is a huge boost to the defence.Antoni Milambo looks an exciting attacking midfield prospect and I’m looking forward to seeing Ivan Toney replacement Igor Thiago after a whole season out injured.Advice for visiting fans: You’ll find a friendly welcome down at Brentford.Wear colours and bring your manners. We don’t do bouncers on pub doors, so check out our range of pubs from great boozers near the old ground like The Globe to some fabulous pubs along the river such as The Bulls Head, The City Barge and The Steam Packet. From Euston, it’s better to take the tube to Gunnersbury or Northfields/South Ealing and walk or take the bus, rather than the overground to Kew Bridge. You can walk to the river in ten minutes from the back entrance of Gunnersbury station. EvertonLast season: 13thTIA predicted finish: 12thBest XI: I don’t judge new signings before I’ve seen them in a competitive match – if we were to judge by YouTube reels, Andros Townsend would be considered the best player in the world! So I’ll just say our best XI will include Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitalii Mykolenko, Carlos Alcaraz, Dwight McNeil, James Garner and Iliman Ndiaye. The view from EvertonSam Whyte (@SamWhyte)Where will Everton finish? A comfortable 10th.Where will Liverpool finish? Probably top, especially if you do eventually land Alexander Isak.Who will win the league, if not Liverpool? Well, who indeed? Arsenal and consistency are seldom seen together, but should they get it together, they will be in with a good chance. One player you wish Everton would sign, realistically: Personally, I’m delighted by the Jack Grealish rumours.I think he’d thrive in Spain or Italy, but it’s been correctly noted that quickly acquiring a second language might not be in his wheelhouse, so I’d have him at Everton for a mid-career revival in a heartbeat. How’s your optimism for the season ahead? The same as I’ve felt the past few seasons – it’s all about consolidation and stability.A comfortable mid-table finish would be absolutely fine. We’ve got the buzz of a shiny new stadium to keep us buoyant.Advice for visiting fans: The new stadium is a beauty, but the local station probably won’t have the necessary capacity, so hop in a taxi from Lime Street. FulhamLast season: 11thTIA predicted finish: 9thBest XI: Leno, Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson, Berge, Lukic, Traore, Smith Rowe, Iwobi, Jimenez. The view from FulhamKyle Bonn (@the_bonnfire)Where will Fulham finish? Fulham are in real trouble at the moment, it feels. They leave most transfer windows until the last minute, as is their way, but this year it feels even more barren than usual. There are no rumours and few links to cling to.Fulham are a bottom-half team right now, maybe 13th place, but hopefully not bad enough to get relegated.Where will Liverpool finish? Liverpool have made a lot of changes up front, and while they are mostly good ones, it’s going to take time to gel.I think the Reds will finish third this season, as they work through the transition.Mohamed Salah is likely to regress, just based on natural statistical variance and age, so who will make up that lost production?Liverpool are still a very high-quality team, but they will need a year before they can be back to their title-winning selves.Who will win the league, if not Liverpool? This year feels like Arsenal’s year.Mikel Arteta led the Gunners to a second-place finish and a Champions League semi-final with no striker and a million injuries, and this summer’s transfer window has been that of a club in win-now mode. They’ve made some good moves and have good depth – I think they have positioned themselves well. One player you wish Fulham would sign, realistically: How about…anyone? In all seriousness, there are bargains in this window, and it seems everyone else is snatching them up.An eventual replacement for Bernd Leno needs to be identified eventually, and they need wingers desperately, as well as a midfielder to play next to Sander Berge.Raul Jimenez isn’t getting any younger either, but Rodrigo Muniz is considered the eventual starter at striker, which is fine, but they need wide players badly.Getting a player like Nico Gonzalez over the line, who they’ve been linked with peripherally, would be a great signing, and the links to Ricardo Pepi are also encouraging. How’s your optimism for the season ahead? At this point, bleak.Fulham are a scrappy team, and Marco Silva can get the most out of any squad at this level, but he can only do so much with a lack of talent.Emile Smith Rowe has looked a bust to this point and requires significant improvement to be worth his value. This is a bottom-half team unless they can get some talent in, whether it be for this year or the future.Advice for visiting fans: West HamLast season: 14thTIA predicted finish: 14thBest XI: Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Aguerd, Diouf, Soucek, Potts, Paqueta, Bowen, FullkrugThe view from West HamJames Jones (@ByJamesJones)Where will West Ham finish? We’re not expecting a lot this season as it’s Graham Potter’s first full one in charge, but I’d like to think we’re good enough to finish between ninth and 12th.It sounds very underwhelming, but we have to be realistic. Many believe we could be in a relegation battle, but from what I’ve seen in pre-season, I don’t think that’s a concern for us.Where will Liverpool finish? I will be shocked if Liverpool don’t win the league again. They’ve done the best business in the summer are already look a far stronger outfit than the one that ran away with it last season.Who will win the league, if not Liverpool? Maybe Man City. I don’t think Arsenal will be good enough again, which pleases me greatly. One player you wish West Ham would sign, realistically: I’d love us to keep an interest in Harvey Elliott. It looks like that ship might have sailed this summer after initial links, but having watched him at the U21 Euros, I think he’s the perfect midfielder for us.We need someone like him to complement Lucas Paqueta’s creativity and Tomas Soucek’s legs. How’s your optimism for the season ahead? I am a lot more optimistic than I was at the end of last season.I think Potter will prove that he was the right appointment and the business we’ve done so far this summer has been half-decent.Like I said before, we need to be realistic. If we have a solid season in mid-table then I think that should be considered progress. We can then build on that.Advice for visiting fans: Enjoy your three points. WolvesLast season: 16thTIA predicted finish: 16thBest XI: Sa; Rodrigo Gomes, Doherty, Agbadou, Toti, Wolfe; Andre, Joao Gomes; Arias, Fer Lopez; Strand Larsen. The view from WolvesDave Azzopardi (@daveazzopardi)Where will Wolves finish? 15th-17th.Where will Liverpool finish? 1st again. One player you wish Wolves would sign, realistically: I would actually like Elliott. It would just depend on whether Wolves would pay the money Liverpool want. How’s your optimism for the season ahead? Not overly optimistic. So far, recruitment has been slow, while the pre-season has been quite poor.Wolves have lost some key players – Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha – so it will be interesting to see how they adapt. It won’t be easy.Advice for visiting fans: There aren’t many places for away fans to drink near Molineux. For that reason, my advice would be to go to Birmingham first if you want a bigger choice of places to eat and drink.
