Man refuses $100 for 2 hours of work

Wait 5 sec.

Just happened a few minutes ago. Currently helping my friend move into a new house, and we stopped by the liquor store as we finished working today and saw a young man, say, early 20s, sitting outside the entrance. He sees us walking up and gets up, and asks for a dollar, and that he's desperate for anything as he hasn't eaten for 2 days. Friend and I look at each other, and friend tells the guy, "Listen mate. I'll give you $100 if you help us out with moving some furniture. Just for 2 hours. Whaddya say?" Man shakes his head and says, "nah, I need money. Not work." and sits back down. Friend and I are both surprised, but just shrug and walk inside. Get our things, pay, and leave, and dude is still sitting outside. Perks up when he hears the bell when the door opens, but then slumps back down upon seeing it's us again. My guy, you're young, limber, seem in good shape, and you're "desperate for anything," but don't want to work for more money than you're asking for? Guess he wasn't as desperate as he claims. Edit: I see the point in the few comments pointing out the man's skepticism and being wary of going with two random strangers to an undisclosed location for "work." Not saying that's bad. It's a fair assumption, and I'm not faulting the guy for it. Just struck me as odd how quickly he declined the offer. I'd be wary too if I were in his shoes. To the few who claim "it's AI," "ragebait," or "fabricated nonsense" based on post history: I don't know what to tell you, honestly. Put your phone down and get off the internet for a bit. I don't know how else to say it without sounding like more of an ass than that phrase already makes me come across. submitted by /u/SugarySpaceSprinkles [link] [comments]
