Stalwart of the incumbent People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Gail Teixeira has urged voters in Region Seven to hand the PPP control of the region and ensure that the massive development seen over the past five years continues.“Your vote is your power,” she said at a PPP rally in Bartica, the mining town considered the gateway to the country’s prolific gold and diamond mines.“It is time that Region 7, after all these years of PNC control from 1980 to now, that is all over, over, over. Tell Norton they catch the boat and go back to Parika,” she said, addressing the leader of the opposition, Aubrey Norton. She also declared that Region Seven cannot be bought by Azruddin Mohamed, who is seeking office under his WIN party.“I am so proud of Bartica. I am so proud of Region 7 because we’ve come a long way,” she declared.Recalling the challenges before 2020, Teixeira said, “The roads were dead,” when the then Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall, was not given resources to develop the town. She contrasted this with recent progress: “Tomorrow, the new stelling completed by the People’s Progressive Party will be commissioned.”She said four new secondary schools are being built in Region 7 – two in Upper Mazaruni, one in Middle Mazaruni that never had a secondary school, and one in Lower Mazaruni.“The transformation going on in this country is unbelievable – the speed at which we’re going.”The post Teixeira urges Region Seven voters to hand control to the PPP appeared first on News Room Guyana.
