Karmenu Ciantar, the man who allegedly killed his relatives Dennis Mifsud and Anthony Agius on 29th July, is appearing in court for the case’s collection of evidence.Ciantar, 72, killed the two men in Baħrija after what seems to be a family-related squabble over a plot of land, as reported live from court by Times of Malta.According to an inspector, Ciantar and his partner Agnes Mifsud had an argument the morning of the double-murder where he then grabbed his shotgun, left the house and didn’t return. In a recorded phone call between the inspector and Ciantar before he was arraigned, the alleged offender told him, “You’ll find me dead. They picked on me over a piece of land and I had been putting up with them for a long time.”“If I go to jail they’ll torture me. I’m a sick man. I’m going to go eat and then you’ll find me dead,” he continued. As the inspector spoke to the suspect on the phone, police were trying to locate him and limit his movement so they could get to him before he harmed anyone else or himself.Lawyer Anthony Vella from the Office of the Attorney General, together with Inspectors Kurt Colombo Zahra, Wayne Camilleri, and Cheyenne Mangion, led the prosecution.Lawyer Francesca Zarb appeared for the accused, while lawyers Mario and Nicholas Mifsud appeared for the victims’ relatives.•
