Astronomers have observed the earliest stages of rocky planet formation around a young, sun-like star named HOPS-315. Using the James Webb Space Telescope and ALMA, scientists detected silicon monoxide gas and silicate minerals within a gap in the star's gas disk. This discovery suggests that the process of forming Earth-like planets may be a common occurrence in the universe.
