Going by the advance booking, Yash Raj Films’ new release has a tremendous word-of-mouth which may result in it becoming a rare movie with newcomers to open in double digits. As per Sacnilk, Saiyaara has already clocked in advance booking for Friday worth Rs 4.41 crore, which includes Rs 1.8 crore of block booking. While this advance booking only for the opening day, when the film has sold over 50,000 tickets so far. It’s expected that the final number of tickets sold in advance would be more than Rs 1,50,000.Combined with on-the-spot booking, Saiyaara is expected to register a commendable opening in double digits, which is rare for a film with newcomers post pandemic. Suri’s last directorial, Ek Villain Returns, only opened at Rs 7.05 crore, despite starring names like John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor, and being a sequel to a hit action thriller, Ek Villain, which had opened at Rs 16.7 crore back in 2014.Suri’s 2020 romantic action thriller Malang opened even lower, at Rs 6.71 crore, despite boasting of a star cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor, and Kunal Kemmu. Suri’s last film to open in double digits was the 2017 romance Half Girlfriend, starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, which earned Rs 10.3 crore on the first day.Saiyaara has almost already crossed the opening day collection of Suri’s 2015 dud Humari Adhuri Kahani, starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan, which opened at just Rs 4.95 crore. Even Suri’s last film with newcomers, the 2013 musical romance Aashiqui 2, which belonged to the same genre as Saiyaara, opened only at Rs 6.1 crore.Yet, Aashiqui 2 was a sequel to Mahesh Bhatt’s 1990 blockbuster Aashiqui. Its lead cast weren’t rank newcomers either — with Shraddha and Aditya Roy Kapur having done at least a couple of unsuccessful films, in lead/supporting parts. Saiyaara’s leading lady Aneet Padda has also gotten acclaim for her turn in the young adult show Big Girls Don’t Cry, which released on Prime Video India last year. But Saiyaara’s leading man, Ahaan Panday, is a complete newcomer. He’s the brother of popular social media influencer Alanna Panday, the cousin of actor Ananya Panday, and the nephew of actor Chunky Panday. Saiyaara also marks Suri’s maiden collaboration with Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, known for a different brand of romance in cinema. The music has already become quite an earworm.Story continues below this adAlso Read — Saiyaara movie trailer: Ahaan Panday launches offensive against ‘blue tick’ celebs, flags discrimination against ‘real artistes’ in this tortured love storyAs Saiyaara releases in cinemas this Friday, it’ll face competition from Anupam Kher’s coming-of-age film Tanvi The Great and Kussh Sinha’s psychological thriller Nikita Roy, starring Sonakshi Sinha.
