Superman (2025) has finally landed in theaters. Directed and written by DC Studios’ co-chairman and co-CEO James Gunn (the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy), it stars David Corenswet (Twisters) as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu) as Lex Luthor.Already established as a world-famous superhero from the outset, Clark Kent/Superman (Corenswet) must reconcile with his alien heritage and prove to the people of Earth that he’s their protector after evil billionaire Lex Luthor (Hoult) concocts an evil plan to convince humanity that the Kryptonian has been sent there to rule over them.Credit: DC / Warner Bros.Superman (2025) Box Office and ReviewsSuperman (2025) is receiving positive reviews from audiences and critics and has grossed $96.5 million worldwide against a $225 million budget so far, per Wikipedia.Gunn’s film is wildly entertaining and a break from the norm where more traditional Superman movies are concerned. Superman (2025) does away with the origin story and gives us a vibrant, colorful Metropolis that looks like it’s been ripped from the pages of DC Comics. Unlike previous films, it’s also filled with many other “meta-human” characters, which helps set this new iteration of the Last Son of Krypton apart from its predecessors. It might not hold a candle to the iconic 1978 film starring the late and legendary Christopher Reeve, however, Corenswet’s performance is worthy of the halls of the Fortress of Solitude. Simply put, Superman (2025) knocks it out of the park, as if the titular hero himself were the one swinging the bat.Like the previous Superman reboot, Man of Steel (2013), which starred Henry Cavill in the lead role, the new reboot launches a new DC Universe, which renders the former DC Extended Universe (DCEU) defunct, meaning that everything from Zack Snyder’s 2013 Superman film through Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) is no longer canon — with the exception of certain actors Gunn has brought forward into the new continuity, such as John Cena as Peacemaker and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.Credit: DC / Warner Bros.Related: David Corenswet’s Superman Seen Flying Above London in Major Stunt Ahead of Movie ReleaseFuture DCU ProjectsWhile it remains to be seen whether Superman (2025) will be a big enough box office hit to allow DC Studios to move ahead with its planned DCU projects, the latest entry confidently teases the next theatrical installment just before the credits roll.*Spoilers ahead for Superman (2025)*Is it a bird?
