From minor tweaks and updates to fully-fledged renovations, guests have a lot to look forward to as Disney World enters an exciting and bold new chapter. At the top of Disney’s “to-do” list is overhauling Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America. These artificial waterways have flown through and divided the park into segments since the very beginning, but they will soon be filled in and paved over as Disney works to bring a new area to life.Following the closure of the Rivers of America, crews have been spotted working on Tom Sawyer Island. This morning, X user Matt Dobrovolsky shared a photo revealing that certain elements have been marked by Disney. Items marked with green typically mean Disney intends to preserve them. Disney first announced this closure at its D23 conference in 2024, an announcement that came as quite a surprise. Tom Sawyer Island has certainly never been one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular attractions, though the man-made island has a lot of charm and history attached to it, so much so that some fans may have assumed it was untouchable. However, Disney used D23 to deliver the news that it would be closing this trio of locations and attractions. There’s simply too much happening to cover it all here, but to summarize, both Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are getting new lands, the former one inspired by Monsters Inc. and the latter one based on South America. These land developments will include new rides and attractions, with Animal Kingdom set to get its own Indiana Jones adventure and an Encanto ride. EPCOT opened GEO-82, its new bar/lounge, earlier this summer, adding to the park’s already impressive list of places to grab a tasty bite and a stiff drink. Are you excited about Piston Peak?
