No case has been registered so far,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police, Lucknow, Raj Kumar Singh.According to police, Suresh was on his way to work when he allegedly slipped into an open drain after stepping on a broken slab. “It is suspected that due to heavy rainfall and water overflowing on the road, he could not see the open drain,” a police officer said.Upon receiving information, teams from multiple agencies – police, Nagar Nigam, and the State Disaster Response Force — reached the spot and launched a search operation.“When Suresh could not be located initially, it was feared he had been swept away. Residents protested, accusing the Nagar Nigam of gross negligence. They claimed that repeated complaints about the broken slab had been ignored,” an official said.Protesters also blocked the road, and the matter was resolved after officials assured them that swift action against those responsible. Lodhi is survived by his wife and three minor children.Maintaining that a thorough probe will be conducted into the role of the officials and agencies concerned, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered suspension of a junior engineer, notice to assistant engineer, and Rs 9 lakh (Rs 5 lakh from CM Relief Fund and Rs 4 lakh from Disaster Relief Fund) as aid to the victim’s family.Story continues below this adHe said that no negligence towards public safety will be tolerated and directed the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department to ensure full accountability in the incident.
