2025 Feedback Discussion

Wait 5 sec.

Hello everyone! On the behalf of the r/wimbledon mod team, I'd like to thank you all for your dedicated contributions, advice, humour in threads and flags, and patience during Wimbledon 2025 especially when responding to the same question for the 234th time that week. The last couple of months have been crazy in terms of visitors to the sub, with over 3.1 million visits and 4,300 new members in just the last 30 days. Not that it's really important, and I didn't really know it was a thing, but we climbed from #9 to #4 in racquet sports on Reddit, and we have received feedback that admins are very pleased with how the sub is doing, and none of that would be possible without all of you. So as the sun sets on another brilliant Wimbledon tournament, we want to reach out to gather feedback and suggestions as we consider what worked or didn't work, and what we can improve in the sub generally, and especially for Wimbledon 2026. Based on Reddit data insights we can see for the last 12 months, we expect the sub will dramatically quieten down now with an anticipated spike when the 2026 ballot processes open later this year. That gives us an opportunity to do some things we couldn't or opted not to do in the short time between the new mods getting involved and the tournament starting, as well as consider new ideas we hadn't thought of that would also make things better for all of us. We'll use this thread as an open discussion until the end of July, so there's plenty of time to make your views known. We might extend the close date if necessary. We'll then review feedback and suggestions, decide on what we want to change/introduce, and develop a timeline for these ideas to become reality. If you'd prefer to send your feedback privately, please send a message through ModMail. Thanks again and we look forward to reading your feedback. ---- In the pipeline Formalised sub rules in addition to Reddit rules: There's a framework behind the scenes as to what is allowed, but we will publish rules to make it clear. If there's something you think should be included, please mention it. We might have it covered, but we might have missed it. Full Wiki/FAQ: A lot of content was written pre-2025 tournament, but there are some infuriating limitations with the current Wiki so we held off making most of it public, except some specific pages in a couple of megathreads. There are hopefully some huge changes coming to Wiki which will make it infinitely better than the very basic text-only version we have at the moment. If the relaunch isn't done in time for the ballot processes starting, we'll make sure the wiki is in place in the old format and retain off-site backups, as there is a chance some Wiki content could be lost when the new version is rolled out to all subs. More automation: We introduced some new mod tools and automod functionality during the 2025 tournament, which largely worked as intended. It takes time to get some of these things to work and we didn't want to break the sub too much at a critical time. It did happen several times, but most of you were sleeping when I was coding and trying to integrate them so were spared the problems. There's a lot more we can do here for 2026. Sidebar/Community Links: We hastily brought these in during the tournament as a signposting shortcut to access certain sub threads or useful external links and rotated them around depending on what was happening. There are some limitations, but actually a lot of useful things we can do in there. They work well for desktop users on new Reddit, understandably not as visible for mobile users with limited space, and many might not know where to find them, but we will continue to explore what we can do with it going forward. Ticket Sales/Exchanges We are very keen to get feedback on whether we should allow these to continue. We know it has been allowed before, so we allowed it this year for the most part, particularly with Queen's, which currently has an open resale at face value terms, and Wimbledon's more restrictive but still possible transfer of one ticket terms. Unfortunately at least several people that we know of were scammed during both Queen's and Wimbledon, and we're sure many people looking for tickets ended up with scammers blowing up their DMs, which is something mods can't stop if you invite them. We also can't see posts or comments that are deleted by scammers. For the most part, the Ticket Exchange megathread helped keep most of those in one place, despite people still creating new threads or commenting everywhere. Thanks to users who made reports, we were able to permanently ban a number of known scammers, and asked admins to investigate (admins can see deleted content). We also now have a ban evasion app running, which can detect and ban users running alt accounts to evade bans. We know many of the long-term members know what to look out for, but most of the less-experienced members and casual posters don't and are more vulnerable, and some scammers have slow-burner accounts, which appear more legit so appearances can be deceptive if someone just checks for the obvious signs. Reddit makes it clear in its policy on transactions involving prohibited goods or services that it is not intended as a marketplace and does not take responsibility for transactions that take place between individuals. Soliciting or facilitating transactions for fraudulent services is a breach of rule 7 and they can investigate that, but they're not going to get you your money back if scammed, and you will be lucky if your bank/card issuer/PayPal agrees to do so. Understandably, many subs on Reddit outright ban sales posts, or restrict to giving something away free. These are options for us, but it would impact the many genuine people looking to swap tickets or transfer their spare at face value, so we want to see what the feeling is before making a decision one way or the other. Any other business We've already taken ideas from other subs as inspiration for some things, but Reddit is a huge place and there are bound to be plenty of excellent things happening on subs elsewhere that we don't see. If there's anything you've seen on your Reddit travels that works well and you think could work here, please let us know. submitted by /u/mgbrewhard [link] [comments]
