Liam Manning on Josh Sargent’s future: “We have to see how that pans out”

Wait 5 sec.

Josh Sargent remains a Norwich City player for now, but could very well be in different colors back August. Sargent continues to garner plenty of interest throughout England ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign. The U.S. men’s national team forward played 45 minutes in Liam Manning’s squad on Saturday as the Canaries defeated lower-league Northampton Town 3-1 in friendly play.Despite Leeds United and Burnley reportedly being in the mix for Sargent’s services, the American has continued through preseason motions with Norwich City this summer. Sargent led the Canaries with 15 goals last season, continuing what has been a positive spell for him at Carrow Road. Manning, who only recently joined as manager earlier this summer, praised Sargent’s talents but also admitted that Norwich City may have to prepare for life without him this season. “Josh is a top player, right? You see that,” Manning said in an interview transcribed by Pink UN. “You see what he’s done in the division. But the consequences of that, naturally, are you’re going to be linked with clubs at a higher level. We have to see how that pans out. I can’t speak highly enough of how he’s applied himself in training and how he’s gone about it. It was good to see him get 45 as well.”Norwich City has already seen star playmaker Borja Sainz depart this weekend for Portuguese giants FC Porto and could now be down two attacking leaders before its EFL Championship opener on August 9. The Canaries will host Millwall at Carrow Road to kick off their competitive schedule.
