On a night where Angel Reese made yet more WNBA history, her achievements were somewhat overshadowed by a heated fan interaction. The Chicago Sky suffered yet another loss this season, this time by the league’s most in-form team in the Minnesota Lynx, taking their record to 7-14. Reese has done everything to try and help the Sky win games this seasonGettyDespite Reese dropping 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and a block, as has been a familiar trend for much of the 2025 WNBA season, there was little other offensive support around her. Consequently, the Sky were smothered by MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier and co, losing 91-78.However, there is certainly no shortage of drama in the WNBA. Toward the end of the third quarter with the Sky only down by five, the cameras picked up Reese engaged in a heated exchange with a fan who was sitting courtside at the Wintrust Arena. Though it is unclear exactly what the spectator said to the Sky forward, the commentators were calling for the fan to be ejected from the arena.“She had stuff to say to a fan right there courtside,” one of the commentators said. “She’s pointing them out to Randy Richardson, our crew chief here tonight.” “As she should,” the other co-commentator replied. “I don’t know what was said but Angel is someone who has heard a lot.“So if someone’s popping off and being inappropriate in an atmosphere like this, then they need to be pointed out and probably escorted out.”The game continued as normal, and nothing further, as it pertains to the interaction with the fan, occurred.Reese has let her game do the talking having been involved in a heated fan exchange on MondayGettyCameras picked up Reese engaged in a heated exchange during the third quarterX@kenswiftShe continued to go at the fan as the Sky regrouped during a break in playX@kenswiftCommentators called for the fan to be ejected although it’s unclear what they saidX@kenswiftReese has been in the spotlight of late for her criticism of officials in games, whilst she has also called out her Sky coaches.Perhaps the only silver lining for the Chicago star – who has just earned her second consecutive All-Star nod – is that her double-double streak has continued to stretch, with the 23-year-old now sitting at nine straight games and counting. Therefore, Reese is still very much on course to smash the record for most consecutive double-doubles of 15 games, which she set in her rookie season, surpassing Candace Parker’s previous record of 12. In 21 games, Reese has already racked up 15 double-doubles, including a triple-double against the Connecticut Sun, where she became the second youngest to do so, behind her rival, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. With her 15 double-doubles this season, and 26 in her rookie campaign, Reese now has 41 career double-doubles. According to Real Sports, she now has more career double-doubles than 97.04 percent of all players in WNBA history, and it’s only her second season in the league. Reese has shouldered much of the offense and defense for the Sky this seasonGettyShould Reese continue on this current trajectory, then by the time the season comes to a close in September, she may well have surpassed Alyssa Thomas’ record of 28 double-doubles in a single season. The month of July continues to be a good one for Reese’s individual numbers, with her 18.8 points per game ranking fifth in the WNBA, shooing at a 55.6 percent clip which is good enough for fourth-best in the league, and her 12.8 rebounds per game leading the league. If the Sky can just work out how to get the team rallying around and supporting their star player, then they may be able to tally on more wins in what has so far been a disastrous season for Chicago.
