Gujarat records 51.09% of the season’s average rainfall: SEOC

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) the state is expected to receive light thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind 30-40 kmph accompanied with light to moderate rain across the state till July 20.Gujarat has received 51 per cent of its average monsoon rainfall, according to data from the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) Gandhinagar.Among regions, Kutch has recorded the highest rainfall at 58.46 per cent, South Gujarat region at 55.19 per cent, Saurashtra and East Central region each at 49.26 per cent and North Gujarat has recorded the lowest at 48.01 66 per cent, all within a month of onset of the southwest monsoon in the state.At the district level, however, Botad has recorded the highest rainfall at 80.39 per cent followed by Bhavnagar at 75.5 per cent, both in Saurashtra region. Other districts with the highest rainfall include Sabarkantha in the north with 66.17 per cent, Anand in the East Central region with 63.95 per cent, and Tapi and Surat in South Gujarat with 64 and 61.43 per cent, respectively.So far, Gujarat has received a total 450.55 mm rainfall this season with 303 mm of rainfall in June alone and 147 mm in July.As per the SEOC data, the highest of over 1,000 mm rainfall was recorded in 18 talukas, 501-1000 mm of rainfall in 45 talukas while 139 talukas recorded 251-500 mm of rainfall.The data also shows the current water storage of Sardar Sarovar dam is 1,76,942 million cubic feet which is 52.96 per cent of the total storage capacity. Also, with 3,31,347 million cubic feet water in other 206 reservoirs in the state which is 59.37 per cent of the total storage capacity.
