The earthquake hit late at night on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, at 10:43 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 2.5, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 2.3, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.6.Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Gjilan (pop. 51,900) located 3 km from the epicenter, and Vitina (pop. 47,000) 16 km away.
