Over 500 people arrested in 273 cases of fake currency notes in over 5 years: Fadnavis

He also said that the government has been taking action against active groups involved in the printing of fake currencies.The state government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Council in a written reply that 273 cases in connection with fake notes have been registered in Maharashtra in the last five-and-a-half years and 566 people have been arrested in these cases.Raising the issue of counterfeit notes in the Legislative Council, legislators Sanjay Khodke and Eknath Khadse asked how many factories producing fake Indian currency notes have been raided by the authorities.Replying to their queries, Fadnavis, who is also Home minister of Maharashtra, said that on April 17 this year, the Pune police confiscated fake currency notes worth Rs 28.91 lakh.The Chief Minister also said that as per a confidential report, the Bhiwandi crime branch unit of Thane Commissionerate raided companies which used to print the fake currencies on May 3 this year. Police recovered Rs 30 lakh worth fake currencies from the arrested accused and in total, fake currency worth Rs 45.50 lakh were seized during investigation.Fadnavis also said seven accused in the Pune case and six accused in the Bhiwandi case have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
