President Dr Irfaan Ali Sunday evening issued a strong warning against attempts to buy votes, describing such efforts as an insult to the dignity of every Guyanese, and warned citizens not to be bribed into voting for new political opponent Azruddin Mohamed.“Your vote is your dignity,” Ali told supporters at the launch of his re-election campaign.“When you vote, you’re voting for your children’s future, your family’s future, your community’s future and your country’s future.“Anyone who believes they can pay you for that dignity is classless, without honour or pride.”The President lumped Mohamed and the APNU Coalition together, calling them “birds of a feather that flock together.”“APNU knows to steal elections, and Azruddin Mohamed knows to steal taxes,” he said. Mohamed is embroiled in controversy with the Guyana Revenue Authority charging him with severely undervaluing a luxury vehicle he brought into the country so as to pay lower taxes.Ali urged voters to focus on what matters: “We can also put everything we’ve built at risk if we become selfish in our hearts,” he warned. The President argued that the PPP’s leadership is “tested and proven,” contrasting it with what he described as the “coalition of lightweights” and critics who “offer no plan, only division.”“When they talk about race, we shall talk about results,” Ali declared. “When they try to divide, we say unite.”The post President Ali warns citizens not to be bribed: ‘Your vote is your dignity’ appeared first on News Room Guyana.
