President Dr Irfaan Ali Sunday acknowledged that the last five years were anything but smooth, but said his government still managed to ensure Guyana is the fastest growing economy, and he rallied supporters for a second term.“The last five years were not easy,” President Ali said, speaking at the PPP’s re-election campaign at the Kitty Market, Georgetown.He said once the PPP took up the seat of government five years ago, almost two years were lost in pursuing development as the country battle COVID-19 and the recovery from it.He also noted that the country faced also faced three major floods and battled the greatest increases in fuel and food prices globally.”President Dr Irfaan Ali (Photo: News Room/July 13, 2025)Despite these challenges, President Ali told the gathering that his government remained steadfast, confronting what he described as deliberate attempts to sow instability.Further, he said “we had more than three attempts to destabilise our country” by opposition forces.Yet, Ali said, the administration “started strong and tall” and never lost sight of its mission.“We stood together, we stood,” he declared, describing unity as the force that kept the government on course.President Ali is looking for a second term in office and told the massive crowd at Kitty that they can count on the PPP’s team.“You can rely on this team to stand with you every day,” he said.“You can rely on this team to take you to victory.
