Rimworld is one of my favorite colony sims of all time, and the actual Rimworld system requirements are so accessible that most gaming laptops and PCs should have no issues getting the game to run. However, start packing on the DLCs or loading up some of the community’s mods en masse and you’ll encounter a CPU nightmare.If, however, you’re only interested in the vanilla Rimworld experience, the game runs incredibly well on old hardware, even with the inclusion of the Odyssey, Biotech, Anomaly, Royalty, and Ideology DLC packs. As a long-time player, I would, however, recommend checking out one of the processors on our buying guides for the best gaming CPU if you want to get the most out of the game. A good CPU isn’t as necessary since multi-threading was added to the game in the 1.6 update, but the game can still put a huge demand on your processor once your colony reaches a considerable size, or you use a lot of the best Rimworld mods.
