Samsung does not have an in-house operating system for laptops and phones. So, it relies on Google and Microsoft for the software on its mobile devices. Its smartphones and tablets use Android, while Galaxy laptops run ChromeOS or Windows, depending on the model. It can't offer as deep an integration between those devices as it could have if it had its own operating systems. Nevertheless, the company may not need to be concerned about this aspect in the future, as Google is working on that matter.Google plans to merge Android and ChromeOSIn an interveiw with TechRadar, Sameer Samat, president of Google’s Android ecosystem, said that Google is planning to merge Android and ChromeOS into a single platform. Samat said, “We’re going to be combining Chrome OS and Android into a single platform.” They also said, “I am very interested in how people are using their laptops these days and what they’re getting done.“This points to Google increasing its efforts to turn ChromeOS from a web browser-based software to a full-fledged OS, probably with more native apps. Last year, Google hinted that it is merging Android and ChromeOS by announcing that the latter will be “developed on large portions of the Android stack.“ With Android 16, Google made its smartphone OS better for productivity by offering Desktop Mode, which is based on Samsung DeX. It allows using apps in freeform windows. App windows can be maximized, minimized, or used side-by-side for multitasking. Multiple instances of an app can also be used simultaneously. If Google can make a compelling alternative to macOS and Windows, a lot more people would be willing to switch from Apple's platforms to Google's platform. Galaxy Chromebooks would be able to integrate deeply with Galaxy phones and tablets, since all of them will be powered by the same platform underneath. These improvements to Android will also improve the experience of using Galaxy Z Fold phones.Image Credits: SamsungThe post Future Galaxy Chromebooks may have a lot more in common with Galaxy phones appeared first on SamMobile.
