With Hasbro and Disney having reportedly joined forces to bring a new Power Rangers series to Disney+, the future of the world’s most Mighty Morphin heroes is looking bright.Though it remains to be seen whether the new series will be a success for the streaming service and for the wider franchise, it’s fair to say that the IP has plenty of power left in it.The color-coded, super-powered “teenagers with attitude” first appeared in 1993 with the television series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which became a global phenomenon that took over the entire planet and with it, countless toy stores and TV sets everywhere. The series ran for the best part of 30 years, continually reinventing itself for new generations. But Power Rangers wasn’t confined to the small screen — we’ve had two theatrical film adaptations; one in 1995 and a reboot in 2017. While the latter failed to launch a new cinematic franchise, the demand for more content remains as high as ever.Power Rangers at Walt Disney WorldCredit: Saban EntertainmentIn that time, we’ve also had numerous video games and comic books. Hasbro also continue to churn out new toys. But it’s easy to forget that the Power Rangers also used to have a theme park presence — at Walt Disney World Resort, no less. It’s even easier to forget that Disney temporarily owned the IP before it was reacquired by the original owners, Saban.During the early 2000s, several iterations of the iconic superheroes as seen in the many seasons of the show made appearances at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios), as part of the Stars and Motor Cars Parade, along with some meet-and-greets.Now, with a new reboot in development, the Power Rangers may yet return to Disney Parks.Related: Disney’s Live-Action ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot: Everything We KnowA Power Rangers Themed Land Could WorkCredit: Saban Entertainment / 20th Century StudiosWhile nothing has been even remotely hinted at by Disney regarding the Power Rangers making a future appearance at Walt Disney World Resort or any other Disney Park, be it in the form of character meet-and-greets, attractions, or a themed land, it’s still great fun to imagine how the beloved franchise could translate into the theme park setting these days.Meet-and-greets would be a no-brainer, but let’s get the obvious out of the way–guests and fans alike would want the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, not any of the iterations that followed. Throw in the fan-favorite Green Ranger (Tommy Oliver), famously played by the late Jason David Frank, and those meet-and-greets could prove incredibly popular.Credit: Saban Entertainment / 20th Century StudiosAs for an attraction, a high-speed roller coaster that matches the frenetic energy of the show (and the 1995 movie) would likely also go down well with Power Rangers enthusiasts.Guests could step into a “Zord Car” and pass through familiar set pieces from the show such as the Command Center, where Zordon gives a warning about an impending monster attack on Angel Grove, and Alpha 5 is panicking as usual (“aye, aye, aye, aye, aye”). And then the evil Rita Repulsa‘s moon lair, before witnessing a battle between the Megazord and a giant, city-destroying monster — whether in audio-animatronic or CGI form (or both).A theme land could also accommodate those well-known locations, with the Command Center serving as the central hub, perfect for selfies. How about Ernie’s for a bite to eat?Of course, this would only work if the upcoming reboot is a hit with viewers. Not only that, but if it’s the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as opposed to any other version that’s destined for the parks, then the series would need to tap into that original series and bring it to a whole new generation, as opposed to solely relying on longtime fans.Related: Katee Sackhoff’s ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Casting ExplainedDisney’s Power Rangers RebootCredit: Lionsgate / SabanEarlier this year, according to a report from TheWrap, American toy and entertainment giant Hasbro teamed up with Disney to work on a new Power Rangers series for Disney+.“Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, show-run and produce a live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV,” the report reads. “Hasbro will produce the series, which will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.”There’s no release date for Hasbro and Disney’s Power Rangers reboot.Would you like to see the Power Rangers at Disney Parks?
