Without further ado, here's how the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 5 compare.Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Flip 5: A worthy upgrade optionThe most striking thing about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the new edge-to-edge cover display. It's larger and extends beyond the main cameras. You may or may not like this design, but technically speaking, the Flip 7's cover screen is vastly superior to the Flip 5's.To keep things simple, it's easier to list all the major Galaxy Z Flip 7 upgrades compared to the Flip 5, including those that concern the cover screen. So here they are. This is what you'll get if you replace your existing Flip 5 with Samsung's new Flip 7.A thinner 6.5mm profile, down from 6.9mm. The Flip 7 is the thinnest in the series to date.An upgraded hinge. It's more durable and facilitates a less visible crease across the foldable panel.Superior IP48 dust and water resistance rating instead of IPX8.The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has bigger screens. The main panel measures 6.9 inches (up from 6.7 inches), and the cover display has a 4.1-inch diagonal (up from 3.4 inches). The foldable screen now uses an LTPO backplane with a 1–120Hz refresh rate and brightness up to 2,600 nits (up from 1,750).Likewise, the Flip 7's cover display now supports 120Hz (up from 60Hz), and it, too, peaks at 2,600 nits of brightness.A vastly superior 50MP primary camera, up from 12MP.A more powerful 3nm Exynos 2500 chip (up from the 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3).The new Galaxy Z Flip 7 is equipped with a beefier 4,300mAh dual battery combo. If you want to use your phone as a pocket desktop PC, the Flip 7 finally allows that.On a final note, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 ships with Android 16 and One UI 8, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will receive the update eventually. However, the Galaxy Z Flip 7's enhanced on-screen controls and Gemini for the cover screen might not become available for the Flip 5. Perhaps more importantly, One UI 8 will be the Galaxy Z Flip 5's second-to-last big firmware update. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 ships with One UI 8 and will be supported with up to seven major OS upgrades.All in all, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 might be the first real upgrade option for Galaxy Z Flip 5 users.
