Micah Parsons v Jerry Jones rumbles on.The Cowboys star defender remains in a contract dispute with Dallas owner Jerry Jones’ which is no nearer to being resolved. The Cowboys‘ wrapped up their preseason with a 31-13 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night and Parsons was unwilling to speak to the media. Not for the first time he used his social media channels to fire back at suggestions he wasn’t at the game for long and afterward Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs answered questions about the availability of his teammate. When asked by the media whether the disgruntled defensive end – who was spotted sleeping for a short moment on the training table on the sidelines during Dallas’ victory – would practise next week, Diggs said that he couldn’t be sure.“I don’t know, his back is kinda tight,” he said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “He had to get an MRI today. I don’t know.”When asked a follow-up of whether Parsons would take to the field for Dallas in the 2025 Season Opener against the reigning Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia Eagles., Diggs said: “It depends on how his back feels.”After negotiations over a new deal reportedly stalled, Parsons went public via a statement posted to his social media accounts that confirmed that he had put in a trade request directly to Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones. The star pass-rusher has since been holding-in at Cowboys training camp while he still seeks a contract extension that will see him be one of, if not the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. According to Jones himself, in an interview he did with Michael Irvin on Thursday, he offered Parsons – who has now removed the the most guaranteed money of any defensive player in league history. “I have agreed to give more money than that’s ever been given, in terms of guaranteed money, than anyone ever has, as far as a defensive player,” Jones said.“I’ve done that. Now, I am the cat that writes the check, OK. Now, Micah’s got three years with the Cowboys left. He’s got three years.Parsons remains sidelined amid an ongoing contract dispute with the CowboysGettyJones has been outspoken about the ongoing saga with ParsonsGetty“At some point, somebody has to have the say over the other. At some point, it has to be that way. My job is managing the check. Micah’s got to do the playing.”He also went on to suggest – albeit indirectly – that there is a very real possibility that he could even franchise tag Parsons in 2026 and 2027 should it resort to that, before taking a swipe at the 26-year-old’s agent, David Mulugheta.“What is the least incremental part of the whole equation? The attorney or the agent. He works for Micah. He’s not the principal here, in any way. In any way. They’re in here to make their percentage.“So many times in this industry, you’ve got another agenda going on with agents. A different agenda. They’re playing a game.”Now, during Parsons’ statement where he revealed he had submitted a trade request away from Dallas, the three-time All-Pro also indicated that Jones had held him to ‘close door negotiations’ without his agent present. As a result, on Friday NFLPA executive director candidate Matt Schaub called for an ‘immediate grievance’ against Jones on the grounds that it violates the NFL‘s current collective bargaining agreement.Unc and Ocho, along with their guest Joe Johnson, spoke about how Jerry Jones is gaslighting Micah ParsonsYT/ @NightcapShow_Parsons’ extension negotiations with Jones is still at a stalemateGettyIn light of these comments, media personalities and ex NFL stars Shannon Sharpe and Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson took to their Nightcap podcast to discuss Jones and Parsons.“Even though you [Jones] say that you’re the general manager at the time, you’re still the owner, and you can’t negotiate directly,” Sharpe said. “So you’re going to have to remove yourself.”“Listen, Jerry plays by his own set of rules,” Johnson interjected.“Owners in general, when you’ve got that kind of money and that kind of power and backing and wealth, you can play by your own set of rules…“When you’re the most profitable franchise, like the Dallas Cowboys are, and they’ve been run a certain way for a very long time, you can make your own rules, which is why you can walk around and talk the way he talks. There’s nothing anybody can do about it. Johnson – who was a perennial Pro-Bowler during his 11-year NFL career, feels that Parsons is being both insulted, and gaslit by the Cowboys owner. “No disrespect to Micah Parsons, it’s somewhat insulting that an owner has come in trying to undermine you, trying to undermine not only Parsons, but the agent aswell,” Ocho said. “There are certain things and certain language that Micah is not going to know or understand that he’s not going to be able to see in something that big.”Sharpe identified that the Cowboys owner only takes the reins when he is in a favorable position. If not, he leaves the business to his lawyers to conduct. “Jerry is only willing to negotiate when he is in an advantageous situation,” Sharpe added. “See, when somebody is on the other side that is in an advantageous situation, he sends his lawyers in to do the negotiating. Now, he feels he’s got the upper hand.”In his first four seasons with the Cowboys, Parsons has recorded 256 tackles, 52 sacks, 112 quarterback hits and 63 tackles for loss. Whether he adds to that tally for America’s Team, though, remains to be seen, with all signs currently pointing to a divorce between the two parties.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for news, exclusive interviews and more.
