The city will host an evening of Hindustani classical music with a flute concert by renowned flautist Pandit Nityanand Haldipur on August 26, Tuesday, at the Jagannath Centre of Art and Culture, Vijayanagar. The event, titled Parampara, is being presented by Raag Milan.A release said that Mr. Haldipur, based in Mumbai, is among the senior-most disciples of Padma Bhushan Annapurna Devi of the Senia-Maihar gharana. Born into a musical family, he began training under his father Niranjan Haldipur, a disciple of flute maestro Pannalal Ghosh, and later under Pandit Chidanand Nagarkar and Pandit Devendra Murdeshwar. His musicianship took a decisive turn in 1986, when Annapurna Devi accepted him as a disciple. A top-grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has performed at national music programmes and the Sangeet Sammelan, and is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010.Sharing the stage with him will be his disciple Ravi Shankar Mishra, who initially trained under his father Pandit Dinesh Chandra Mishra, and later under Mr. Haldipur. Mr. Mishra has performed widely in India and abroad, including at UNESCO in Paris, and has collaborated across genres.On the tabla will be Uday Raj Karpur, a senior artiste from Karnataka, who has worked with musicians such as Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Pandit Rajeev Taranath, and his son Pradyumna Karpur, a young performer recognised as a child artiste by All India Radio.The concert will begin at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday.Published - August 23, 2025 06:55 pm IST
