‘Hard to recover’ – Tommy Fury compares sparring with brother Tyson Fury to gruelling MMA session with Eddie Hall

Wait 5 sec.

Tommy Fury has compared grappling with the behemoth that is Eddie Hall to sparring with Tyson Fury.Fury was left exhausted after taking part in a series of MMA drills with the former World’s Strongest Man, claiming it felt the same as standing toe-to-toe with his half-brother and former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson. Hall entered the MMA world for the first time in April, making easy work of Poland’s Mariusz Pudzianowski on his professional debut. The 37-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent floored Pudzianowski and finished the fight in less than 30 seconds to earn his first win in the sport, having previously contested exhibition bouts against Hafthor Bjornsson and the Neffati brothers. He has since been actively training in MMA in pursuit of another lucrative fight.Hall uploaded a video to his YouTube channel this week, in which he was seen practising a variety of MMA moves on the floor and on his feet with Fury.Midway through the pair’s training, Hall challenges Fury to try and escape from bottom position with him in full guard on top.Unsurprisingly, Fury is unable to shift any of the 360 lbs of flesh ‘The Beast’ puts on top of him, and he had only one comparison to the experience when he finally made it to his feet, fully exhausted.“The only thing I can compare that to is when I’m sparring Tyson,” Fury explained.“Because he’s so tall, and so big as well. When you’re in close with him, sometimes, just for the f*** of it, he’ll just be there and [lean into you].“You’re trying to get off him, and he’s hitting you at the same time. Then, all of a sudden, after two minutes, your legs are gone. “It’s hard to recover from that, with how much weight is on you like that. Your legs just go, I’m telling you.”Fury said the exhausting session with Hall reminded him of sparring with TysonEddie Hall The Beast - YouTubeEddie Hall The Beast - YouTubeAs there is so much weight to handle when training with both men and it completely drains you[/caption]All 6’9″, 281 lbs of Tyson had been no match for any boxer until his double header with Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.After completing his trilogy with Deontay Wilder and defeating Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, and Francis Ngannou, ‘The Gypsy King’ suffered his first career defeat to Usyk at the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh, in May last year.Seven months later, the pair met in a rematch, but the result was the same, and Usyk has since gone on to defeat Daniel Dubois to claim undisputed heavyweight status for the third time.Hall, meanwhile, has admitted that he would never shy away from a fight with someone like ex-UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou. He is actively looking for another MMA scrap and has admitted his desire to remain in the ‘freak fight’ industry.“I’m not saying no to these fights,” Hall explained in July, speaking on competing against the biggest names in the sport.‘The Beast’ made a splash in MMA knocking out Pudzianowski in less than 30 secondsKSWFury hasn’t boxed since losing a rematch to Oleksandr Usyk in DecemberGetty“And the reason being, these guys are well out of my league, 100 per cent.“I’ve got no aspirations to be a top-ranked fighter in any federation or any pretensions in the world. I’m here to fight my heroes and make money.“You get asked the question, ‘Would you get in the ring with Francis Ngannou?’“F***ing hell. 995 times out of a 1000, Francis Ngannou wins, but it’s that 0.5 per cent.”Following his two victories over Jake Paul and KSI in 2023, Fury returned to action in May and defeated Bosnian fighter Kenan Hanjalic. He is eyeing a return to the squared circle towards the end of the year, with a rematch against Paul, who faces WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in November, at the top of his list.
