The Malta Community Chest Fund and the Schiavone family are back with the second edition of Cycling with Jack an event that remembers local cycling legend Jack Schiavone while raising funds to help those in need.Jack wasn’t just any cyclist. He was a respected figure in Malta’s cycling scene, winning multiple honours, representing Malta internationally, and even serving as national coach. His impact on the sport was undeniable. After a brave battle with cancer, during which he received support from the Malta Community Chest Fund, Jack sadly passed away. To honour his memory and give back, his wife Caroline and their children launched Cycling with Jack, turning their gratitude into action. This year’s event takes place 28th September, starting at St Clare College in Pembroke. Cyclists will ride all the way to Manoel Island and back, while St Clare College will transform into a family zone packed with fun and entertainment for all ages.Speaking during a press conference at San Anton Palace, President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono praised the initiative:“Often, the relatives of those who needed help come forward to tell us they now want to help others. Caroline is a clear example of how we create a chain of people helping one another, and I hope her example inspires others. The public should cooperate and take part in these activities to increase the good we do,” she said. For Caroline, this event is deeply personal:“The experience we went through as a family showed us that the Malta Community Chest Fund isn’t just about financial assistance, it was always there for us whenever we needed help as a family,” she shared, describing the event as a living reflection of Jack, who always combined his love for cycling with generosity and solidarity.Sina Bugeja, Chairperson of the MCCF, added:“The selfless way in which Jack Schiavone’s memory is being honoured through this event,” while calling on cyclists and families to take part in this year’s ride in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.Registration is now open for cyclists at on the mccf online store, and the family-friendly event is free for everyone, though donations are welcome and appreciated.Expect activities for kids, including a supervised cycling circuit, static bikes, basketball and even a BMX bike exhibition.
