The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) was rocked to its core yesterday after bush war veteran and long-serving security minister Maj. Gen. (rtd) Jim Muhwezi suffered a humiliating defeat in the Special Interest Group (SIG) elections. In a stunning upset that left delegates gasping, Lt. (rtd) Moses Mushabe, a relatively unknown figure, floored the powerful general in the battle for Chairperson of the Veterans’ League.Mushabe scooped a commanding 1,047 votes, almost double Muhwezi’s 570. The other contenders, Titus Erisa Kiwanuka and Jackson Walusimbi, were left in the dust with a meagre 11 and 7 votes respectively.“Veterans Have Been Betrayed!”Mushabe wasted no time in blasting the old guard for neglecting the very men and women who brought the NRM to power. His victory electrified Kololo Airstrip, with some delegates shouting:“This is the change we wanted! Enough of the old guard, let the young blood lead!”Muhwezi’s Fall From GraceFor decades, Jim Muhwezi has been a towering figure in the NRM — a bush war hero, minister, and political heavyweight. But yesterday, delegates showed no mercy, sending a clear message that time had caught up with him.“We respect Afande Muhwezi’s service, but he has grown distant from the realities of veterans’ suffering,” one delegate told reporters. “We need leaders who are present on the ground, not just in Kampala.”The result left many insiders whispering that Muhwezi’s political clout inside the party has been shattered beyond repair. The Rise of MushabeDraped in energy and speaking with the anger of forgotten veterans, Mushabe now becomes the new face of the Veterans’ League — and a fresh voice in the Central Executive Committee (CEC), the ruling party’s most powerful decision-making organ.“He is young, strong, and hungry,” one jubilant delegate said. “He will fight for us and for our place in the NRM. This victory is not just about him — it’s about all veterans demanding relevance again.”A Warning Shot in the NRMAnalysts say Mushabe’s stunning victory is more than just a league election. It is a warning shot within the ruling party that even the most decorated bush war generals are not safe from rebellion in the ranks.“What happened to Muhwezi is a political earthquake. It shows a generational shift, with old names falling and new ones rising,” a political observer commented. As the dust settles, one thing is clear: the veterans have spoken — and Jim Muhwezi’s iron grip has crumbled. The post NRM EARTHQUAKE!!!
