The Punjab AAP government’s action against BJP is being seen as a “tit-for-tat” action. The ruling party has launched police action against saffron party’s outreach programme ‘BJP de Sewadar Aa Gaye Ne Tuhade Dwar’.Sources in AAP told The Indian Express that the Punjab Police action has been initiated to “pay BJP back in the same coin.” “They did this to AAP in Delhi ahead of Assembly elections there. The BJP had embarrassed us at every step there. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi did not allow us to work. We are not allowing them to carry out their programme here. It is that simple,” said a source in AAP.“The events in Delhi were dramatic. Just weeks before the Assembly elections in Delhi, held in February, two key government departments had stepped away from schemes widely publicised by the then ruling AAP. Soon after AAP had started its enrollment drive for the two schemes. The Women and Child Development (WCD) Department issued an official notice stating Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, promising Rs 2,100 per month to women was not currently notified. It had further stated that “any registration drives or attempts to collect personal data in the name of these schemes are considered unauthorised and potentially fraudulent”. Citizens were urged not to submit sensitive information like bank details, Aadhaar, or voter ID, said an AAP leader. On the similar lines, the Health Department of Delhi had also inserted public notice in newspapers that Sanjeevani Yojana, which has been promoted as a free healthcare programme for seniors (by Delhi’s then AAP government), does not officially exist yet. Notices had warned citizens against sharing personal details or signing documents, pointing out that such actions could invite cyber or banking fraud.Delhi Congress leader, Sandeep Dikshit had complained to the LG stating that AAP functionaries were going door-to-door to collect data for the Mahila Samman Yojana despite the WCD department stating that a portal will soon be launched to register for the scheme.Dikshit had also said that in view of the clarification submitted by the WCD department, a fraud was being perpetrated by the AAP. He had sought an inquiry into the matter. Following this, the office of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had written to the Delhi police commissioner and the chief secretary, asking them to conduct an inquiry into the collection of personal details and forms by non-government officials for supposed state schemes, and to also inform the Election Commission of India. On December 30, 2025, Delhi Police formed multiple teams to identify camps where AAP was collecting information of voters in the same of scheme. They were not allowed to hold camps after that.Story continues below this ad“Is it not a similar situation? They cannot be allowed to steal the data of people,” said a leader.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt Ltd
