Attacker’s friend knew about plan to meet Delhi CM, sent him money, say police

He was later arrested.His friend, also an autorickshaw driver like Sakriya, was picked up for questioning in Rajkot by a Delhi Police team on Thursday.Police said he was let off after he was questioned and on Friday, he was issued a notice asking him to join the probe in Delhi.“We have questioned over 10 people, including the friend of the accused from Rajkot. They have also recorded statements of Sakriya’s family members, neighbours, and friends,” said an officer.“The investigation has revealed that the friend was aware of Sakriya’s plan to meet the Chief Minister during the Jan Sunwai and had even sent him Rs 2,000 via online transaction as financial assistance. It has also been found that Sakriya had sent a mobile recording to him,” the officer added.The police said both men would be questioned together, and if it emerges that the friend was a part of the conspiracy that led to the attack, he may be booked.Story continues below this adMeanwhile, the police have recorded the statements of the security personnel who were present at the camp office when Gupta was attacked. These officers were responsible for frisking people who came to the Jan Sunwai. Cellphone recordings and CCTV camera footage from the camp office and its surroundings have also been collected, said police.Sakriya was sent to five days of police custody late Thursday after he was produced at the residence of the Metropolitan Magistrate in Dwarka post midnight. The Delhi Police had initially sought his remand for seven days.
