He lived a quiet life on a rotting farm. The official logline of the documentary calls it a house of horrors so disturbing it reshaped the American nightmare. Born in 1906, Gein grew up with an abusive father and a fanatically religious mother who filled him with a hatred of sex. After their deaths in 1945, his mental health deteriorated. That’s when he turned to killing women. In 1957, cops found the body of a woman along with preserved remains scattered across his house, leading to his arrest. Declared unfit for trial after being found guilty and then not guilty by reason of insanity, Gein spent the rest of his life in a mental institution until his death in 1984.Also read: Anurag Kashyap says Netflix responded to Scam 1992’s success by firing the executive who overlooked it; claims OTT platforms ‘dumbing down’ contentStory continues below this adThe promotional materials for the series pay tribute to horror history, using lines like “Before Psycho… There Was Ed” and “Before The Texas Chainsaw Massacre… There Was Ed.” The images show Hunnam screaming with a chainsaw, wearing a skin mask, and lying uncomfortably close to a motherly figure.
